Last week was pretty hectic in my life and in the life of Rice – but on Friday something incredibly nice ticked in…a really lovely review of my ‘Happy Home’ book, written by Holly Becker from Decor8.
I have been working on this book for such a long time – and to be really honest I was quite stressed out before starting to write.
I have made 3 cookbooks before and somehow that has been very simple and “easy” in the sense that you have a recipe and a picture and that’s it…
When you write about colors and why you love this with that, and why you do this and that… it suddenly becomes much more personal and somehow intimidating as well. A lot of the things I do, I just do without thinking… on an intuitive whim…
Once I started writing I had the best time! I have tried to make the book very simple – more about just letting go and trying things out – not taking life and the color of a wall so seriously.
Take a look at Hollys review…. and let me know what thoughts come to your mind.
The book will so far be published in 8 different countries. I am proud of that and I hope in my own little way to color homes and lives a little bit happier…
Big red colorful kiss to all on this sunny day in Denmark…
Allow me to be proud – when we present a new collection it always feels a little bit like showing off your newborn baby for the first time.
This spring summer season at rice is called RICE to the stars – enjoy these image pictures so beautifully styled by Birgitte, our in-house stylist and my friend for more than 30 years…
I get all bubbly and happy inside every time I flick through them – I want to pin them all to different boards at my Pinterest account…
Some go on my board ROADTRIP – now please take me away, others on cute in a quirky way - or just funky inspirations.
Pinning is pure meditation for me – I really love loosing myself and just float along into the pin-up world….
The only problem is it highly addictive…..hours fly by, in what feels like just a minute!
Hope you too feel like pinning some of them to your favourite boards.
Inspiration is for sharing

With the change of year I always become sentimental and at the same time very hopeful – looking back – looking forward…
A time for status – a time to focus on new dreams and goals.
We have had the best time over Christmas – my Australian cousin and his family visited and one of my other cousins, who lives in London, also moved in for a few days. Laughing – dancing – partying….. lots of great moments to look back upon…
Now it’s back to work – the party is over and EVERYDAY MAGIC is the new focus.
Last year I spent most of my Summer writing a book for English editor Jacqui Small Publishing – I have written a few cookbooks before – in Danish only. I love cooking and I love writing!
This new book is called ‘Happy Home – Everyday Magic for a colorful life’ It’s about how to live with colors and how to live with RICE – it’s very exciting and we have put a lot of thoughts and love into the project. I am looking forward to the launch in March.
The image shows a prototype of the book cover
It is written in English – and so far it has been translated into Danish, French and German and there is an American version too. Hopefully more languages will be added to the list as we go.
You will definitely be hearing much more about it in the months to come…..
My dreams and focus points for 2013 are:
Laughter, playfulness, fun, dancing, boxing – mindful moments and Everyday Magic
What are yours ???
Last week I spend 4 days in Amsterdam with Birgitte our in house stylist – visiting Joëlle on of our lovely freelance designers.
4 days of sweet magic – the only drug was being together and talking about our upcoming Spring Summer 14 collection.
We had some really fun days meeting with lovely inspiring people. In times like these I truly understand WHY I love my job.
The things we make are of course on the superficial side of life – but somehow they just make a lot of sense anyway – making everyday life happier and more colorful….
Flowers kept following us – there seems to be a “trend” of bouquets with just a few flowers and only one of each flower just in a big vase- no greens at all – so that each flower gets to shine in all its glory…. In my house I have now made some really nice bouquets…. one of each Christmas flower looking happy in my vases…. Usually these kind of bouquets with lots of different flowers is something I love about summer and wild flowers – and something I avoid during winter…
Everyday Magic can be found everywhere – looking for Summer ideas in a Cristmas Decorated city was not a problem at all.
Enjoy the last week before Christmas everyone
Big Love

Woke up this morning and thought – no I am just too tired to go to work….
Not sure why – it feels like somebody has turned on a “tired button” inside me over the weekend. I actually did very little this weekend – just relaxed – went for long walks, went to the cinema… had no alcohol….got lots of sleep…. But I guess I am paying the price for all the travelling over the last few months.
This is one of the perks of having your own company – the flexibility. Probably the one perk I appreciate the most.
Started the morning with sports together with my coach – we are working on getting me running and that is one big project…. hopefully we will get there soon! I am not trying to become a marathon woman – I would just love to be able to run 5 km from time to time. And when I have done 2 km for the first time – I will invite him to my favorite sushi restaurant in town… (how to motivate your coach).
A nice fire is burning in our woodstove – I have made some apple compote and now I am sitting in one of my favorite spots in the house – and guess what – I AM WORKING….funny how it goes sometimes. I had a long list of “to-do’s” and by now I have almost ticked everything off.
Only missing sorting out my travel expenses – from last weeks 24 hours of fun in London – and I need to write a review of John C Parkins latest book called “f**k it therapy”. I have recieved the book as a gift and promised to write a review for Amazon.
There is a section in this book where my friend Lydia Plankensteiner talks about how she said f**k it to dieting and started to lose weight. I have been twice to the fabulous “f**k it” courses in Italy and I just love it. Take a look at www.thefxxkitlife.com and see what they offer – it is an amazing journey and true fun experience. I am also fighting with my weight and even if I am doing lots of sports – nothing much seem to be happening…except that I feel great and light and happy – so perhaps I will decide just like Lydia to put a big f**k it sign on my scales…….
The pictures are from my messy desk and the lovely woodstove…
Have a great week – for me it has been the perfect everyday magic start…
