I have a long lasting – and hopefully never ending love affair with Paris.
When I was 18 I met Philippe – my husband – and at 19 I moved to Paris to live with him.
It was a bit of a roller coaster start – far away from friends and family… Learning a new language – living a different life but all in all it lasted with a few back and forths for 15 years. When I look back at it, it sometimes seems like it was part of someone elses life. But then I think of this lovely quote and I know it is there inside me – as a large part of who I am.
If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.
We moved to Denmark and started RICE 14 years ago – and in this new chapter in my life – with 2 children and the startup of a company I guess there has never been much time to look back. Recently as my children are getting bigger and I get the occasional few hours by myself and I get time to reflect, and I start to miss Paris – a mix probably of missing the city – but surely also my young and carefree lifestyle is part of what I look back upon with a smile.
Friday I am off to Paris – I do have to work – as we have a trade show at Maison & Objet – but trust me I will make time to fill up my heart with the beauty of this city – I will make a post soon about my favourite places and spaces.
I told a friend of mine this morning that I am sure I could make a really really good Parisian tour guide – walking around the city and taking you to the most amazing little places – off the beaten track…. and show you why Paris is always a good idea……
